whats_your_twenty - Blue Monday is approaching. What is Blue Monday? It is the 3rd Monday in January and is considered the most depressing day of the year. Unfortunately, this correlates with high suicide rates. Why are people struggling in January? - the cold weather where more people stay inside and are more isolated - it's dark in the morning when people get up and dark in the evening when people get home from work - people are coming down from a lot of interaction that took place in December from the holidays - many people spent the holidays alone, and January continues and compounds that loneliness - credit card statements and finances are looming from overspending at Christmas - people are overweight and out of shape from not getting out to exercise or overeating during the holidays Notice if someone has been quiet, silent, or absent. Keep an eye on your people. Check in. Stop in. Call. Be there. Talk. Look for the signs. Get yourself or your people help. Most times, we have no idea that someone is suffering because they'll tell you time and again that 'they're fine, they're good.'
