💻 As #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth comes to a close, we are highlighting a popular online scam trend known as “sexstortion,” where scammers target young men & boys in an attempt to extort explicit photos of them & money. If payment is not received, scammers threaten to share the intimate photos with the victim’s friends list on their social media profile.
What to do:
🔹 Be cautious when interacting with strangers online. You don’t always know who is on the other side of the screen.
🔹 Do not share personal information or explicit photos, especially if you don’t know who you are talking to.
🔹 If an online interaction becomes uncomfortable, stop the communication & notify a trusted adult.
✅ If you have sent photos & are now being threatened, don’t panic. First, stop talking to the person online. Screenshot the conversation rather than deleting it. Notify a trusted adult or call the police.
