Fall Safety Tips for Pedestrians/Cyclists:
As we move into fall and it gets darker earlier, the chances of pedestrian and cyclist involved collisions are higher. Ensure you and those around you are safe by remembering the following guidelines:
- Wear visible or reflective clothing when you are on or near roadways. If possible, keep a flashing light source with you when walking/jogging/cycling.
- If you are riding your bicycle in the evening, ensure you have functioning lights on the front and rear.
- Stay aware of your surroundings and any vehicles in your vicinity when in trafficked areas.
- Put your cell phones away. Distracted walking/cycling can put your personal safety at risk.
- When crossing at intersections, crosswalks, or stop signs, always make eye contact with drivers to ensure they are aware of your presence.
- Remain on designated pedestrian walkways and sidewalks at all times when travelling on foot.
- Always dismount your bicycle to cross the roadway at intersections, crosswalks, and stop signs.
- Obey all rules of the road to ensure your safety, and the safety of those around you.
